More Than a Century of Canadian Heritage

Westinghouse’s presence in Canada began in 1897, when George Westinghouse established his first international manufacturing operation in Hamilton, Ontario. With just 80 workers, the plant produced nearly 10,000 air brake sets annually to support Canada’s growing railway network.

This set the stage for formal incorporation on July 9, 1903, and the beginning of a legacy of innovation that has endured for more than a century.

As the company grew, Westinghouse expanded its operations into Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal and Winnipeg. By 1915, the Hamilton plant had broadened its manufacturing capabilities to include generators, transformers, turbines and other electrical machinery.

Today, with a growing team of experts across Canada and more than 60 years of nuclear experience, Westinghouse Canada continues to build on this momentum through its dedication to delivering innovative nuclear energy and accelerating Canada’s energy sustainability.
