Written by Westinghouse Electric Company | July 27, 2022

Did you know that Thursday, July 28 is National Intern Day?

Created by WayUp in 2017, it aims to recognize and celebrate the future leaders of the world: our interns!

We would like to celebrate our interns across the globe for their dedication, enthusiasm and hard work.

At Westinghouse, we recognize the value, perspective and support that our interns bring to our global organization, and we enjoy the opportunity to be a part of their journey.

Here’s what Mallory has to share…
“About halfway through my degree, I got a research position with a professor in the engineering department at my school. I discovered that I really enjoyed the work I was doing, but it was entirely too late to change my major. So, I embraced that experience and told myself that I would get an internship in some facet of engineering to push this interest even further. During the application and interview process, Westinghouse saw something in me and offered me a position. This summer has been life changing. I have been able to dive deep into numerous engineering projects with the help of a supporting team. The nuclear industry fosters the “always ask questions” environment, and as someone who was relatively new to this type of work, was such a blessing. I have asked so many questions, and from it, have learned more than I could possibly imagine this summer, and I never felt bad for doing so. This internship sets me up quite nicely for a graduate degree in some facet of engineering. I am so thankful for Westinghouse taking a chance on me, and propelling me towards a future in engineering, and possibly one in the nuclear industry. All paths to being an engineer are not as linear as others, and I am a testament to that.”
