Westinghouse Control Room Simulator Demonstrates Our Commitment to Long-term Customer Operations

Written by Westinghouse Electric Company | September 19, 2025

Westinghouse’s recently announced plans to build a state-of-the-art control room simulator at the Atucha 1 Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in Argentina shows the lengths we will go to meet our customers’ long-term operating needs.

After 50 years in operation, Atucha 1 NPP is facing an ambitious long-term program to extend its life for another 20 years, with upgrades to the plant’s reactor protection system, instrumentation and controls (I&C) systems and plant components.

Our full-scale replica control room simulator, which offers one of the highest model fidelity and prediction rates in the market, is a key component of the plant life extension project. Its development is carried out in parallel with this extension project and it will play a critical role in training plant operators at the facility in a new plant configuration, as well as identify improvement areas and cost-saving opportunities, during the three-year outage that Nucleoeléctrica Argentina S.A. (NA-SA) will undertake to implement the necessary upgrades for the extension of the plant’s operating life.

At Westinghouse, we’re delivering industry-leading solutions for our customers to plan for longer nuclear plant lifetimes. From commercial operation through license renewals, we partner with our customers to provide engineered solutions, training and resources, I&C systems and nuclear parts to meet their unique needs.
