It’s not every day you get to pitch the President of the United States and announce a collaboration with Google on AI, but that’s what Westinghouse did at the first-ever Pennsylvania Energy Summit and Expo in Pittsburgh on July 15.
This video clip is taken from Senator McCormick’s Office livestream.
Hosted by U.S. Senator David McCormick, the summit highlighted Pennsylvania’s significant role in shaping the future of AI and energy innovation. Westinghouse Interim CEO Dan Sumner took part in a CEO Roundtable attended by President Trump, top Administration officials, including U.S. Energy Secretary, Chris Wright, and U.S. Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum, as well as CEOs and leaders across the energy sector, including Blackrock, First Energy, ExxonMobil, Constellation, EQT and more.
The following video clips are taken from the White House's livestream.
“We’ve issued an order one month ago making it very easy and very safe to build nuclear power,” said President Trump. “Westinghouse is represented here, and they’ve become a whole brand-new Westinghouse … it’s a great thing you’re doing.”
“President Trump, you’ve led on nuclear energy in this country, and you’ve reinvigorated our industry with the vision that you’ve set forth in your executive orders,” Dan Sumner said during the CEO Roundtable as President Trump listened. “Westinghouse today is the world’s leader in nuclear technology. Over 50% of the reactors that operate in the world use Westinghouse technology. We as a company service over 60% of the world’s operating nuclear fleet right here from our headquarters in the Pittsburgh region.”
“We’ve taken the call-to-action under your executive order to partner with companies across our industry to mobilize a plan to deliver 10 AP1000® reactors in the US with construction to begin by 2030. When we deploy a fleet aligned to your vision, we’ll drive $75 billion of economic value across the United States with $6 billion of value here in Pennsylvania,” said Dan. “Implementing your vision will create or sustain over 55,000 jobs across the country and over 15,000 jobs in the Commonwealth alone, and these are great jobs across manufacturing, engineering and construction.”
Earlier in the day, Westinghouse announced an AI partnership with Google Cloud to join forces with our powerful HiVE™ and bertha™ nuclear AI solutions to accelerate the construction of advanced Westinghouse nuclear reactors and improve operations in our current nuclear fleet. AP1000 technology is the quickest way to add new sources of affordable and abundant nuclear energy to the U.S. grid.
“We’re happy to announce today a strategic collaboration with Google to leverage Google’s expertise in AI and AI solutions,” Dan told President Trump during the roundtable. “Along with Westinghouse’s AI technology and 75 years of OEM nuclear engineering and construction data, this collaboration will build an AI machine that helps us rethink how to do nuclear construction in this country.”
Alongside Google, Westinghouse team members presented our HiVE technology at the Summit Expo, as well as showcased our AP1000 reactor at the Westinghouse booth exhibit.
"Innovation is core to Westinghouse," stated Lou Martinez Sancho, Westinghouse CTO and Executive Vice President of Research and Development. "HiVE™ is a game-changer for the nuclear industry and the national deployment of nuclear power. It was a privilege to present our technology portfolio to President Trump, Secretary Wright and prominent leaders in the artificial intelligence and energy sectors.”
“Today’s commitments are ensuring that the future is going to be designed, built and made right here in Pennsylvania and right here in Pittsburgh,” said President Trump.
Westinghouse is proud to call Pennsylvania home, and this summit is a testament to Pennsylvania’s potential to power the AI and energy revolution.
