SPRINGFIELDS, U.K., July 14, 2016 - Westinghouse Springfields site located in Preston has been awarded the prestigious Order of Distinction Award from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA). This is the 16th consecutive year that the company’s enhanced safety culture and safety improvements have been recognised by RoSPA.
RoSPA and the Order of Distinction Award are internationally recognised achievements for operations in 24 industry sectors including construction, healthcare, transport and logistics, engineering, manufacturing and education. The award offers organisations the opportunity to prove their ongoing commitment to raising safety standards and to celebrate success. The 2016 award highlights the many initiatives introduced by Westinghouse including regular safety workshops for all employees, near-miss reporting, risk assessments and the development of a safety culture which has been embraced by all employees.
“This is a tremendous and fitting accolade to recognise our employees’ commitment to health and safety, particularly during Springfields 70th anniversary,” stated Managing Director of Westinghouse U.K. Fuel Operations, Simon Marshall. “For 16 successive years our occupational health and safety management systems and our management-union partnership and culture have received awards at the highest level, reflecting the importance Westinghouse places on safety throughout the company worldwide.”

The programme looks at accident records as well as entrants’ overarching health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement.
Julia Small, RoSPA’s head of awards and events, said: “To win an award at such a highly-regarded event as the RoSPA Awards is a great achievement for our winners. It recognises their commitment to maintaining an excellent health and safety record and raises the bar for other organisations to aspire to. We offer them our congratulations.
