We are proud to announce that the PWROG AI Assistant—powered by our own bertha™ AI technology—has officially launched and is now available to utility member personnel across the Pressurized Water Reactor Owners Group (PWROG). This is a meaningful milestone for Westinghouse: a real-world demonstration of how our AI capabilities can deliver immediate, practical value to the nuclear industry we serve.

The PWROG AI Assistant is a nuclear-specific artificial intelligence platform that enables PWROG member personnel to ask questions in plain language and receive answers based on the organization’s decades of approved technical knowledge and expanded with information from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and its ADAMS dataset.

A foundational principle of the PWROG AI Assistant is that artificial intelligence serves as tool to augment engineering professionals, not replace them. Every response is grounded in approved knowledge and accompanied by direct references to source documents, enabling users to validate information before acting on it. Engineering judgment, technical expertise, and human oversight remain central to every decision supported by the platform.

“Purpose-built AI technology can significantly improve productivity in highly specialized technical environments when it is implemented responsibly and aligned with established engineering processes.”

At the heart of the platform is Westinghouse’s bertha™ AI technology. Purpose-built for highly specialized, technical environments, bertha™ understands nuclear terminology, plant systems, technical documentation and the industry-specific context that general-purpose AI tools cannot replicate. This is not an off-the-shelf solution. Rather, it reflects years of Westinghouse expertise in nuclear engineering, digital innovation and responsible AI deployment.

Why This Matters for the Nuclear Industry

For decades, PWROG has accumulated a vast library of operating expertise. While it is one of the industry’s greatest shared assets, its sheer volume has historically made it difficult for engineers to locate the right information quickly.

The PWROG AI Assistant helps engineers find the information they need faster, giving them more time to focus on technical analysis and decision-making.

As the industry navigates workforce transitions and growing demand for engineering resources, the PWROG AI Assistant also helps ensure that institutional knowledge remains accessible—not just to today’s engineers, but to the next generation of nuclear professionals.

"The PWROG AI Assistant represents an important advancement in how our members access and leverage the collective knowledge developed across the nuclear industry," said a PWROG Chairman Jim Lynde. "By reducing the time required to locate and understand relevant information, the platform helps engineers focus more of their efforts on applying technical expertise and solving complex challenges."

Immediate Value, Already Being Delivered

Since its deployment, the PWROG AI Assistant has been delivering measurable value to utility members.

The platform is proving valuable not only in engineers’ everyday work, but also in professional development and onboarding. It helps newer engineers understand historical technical decisions, PWROG activities and engineering rationale, reducing the learning curve and strengthening knowledge transfer.

Early interest from utility personnel and active participation in training activities reflect a strong industry appetite for modern digital tools that improve access to information while preserving the engineering rigor and traceability on which nuclear professionals depend.

A Global Reach, A Shared Mission

The PWROG AI Assistant is available to domestic and international PWROG members, creating a shared digital environment for knowledge discovery, research and collaboration across the global nuclear community.

This reach reflects the breadth of Westinghouse’s relationships and influence in the industry—and our commitment to the shared mission of improving plant performance, operational excellence and the safe, reliable operation of nuclear generating stations worldwide.

What’s Next

The PWROG AI Assistant will continue to evolve. Planned enhancements include expanded knowledge repositories, additional engineering-focused tools, improved search capabilities, advanced agent functionality and new features designed to further enhance the user experience. The platform is also well positioned for future integration into broader nuclear industry AI initiatives.

By combining deep industry knowledge with modern AI technology, the PWROG AI Assistant represents an important step in nuclear’s ongoing digital transformation — and a clear demonstration of what Westinghouse’s bertha™ platform can accomplish in the field.
