On February 19-20, Westinghouse and Bechtel hosted a supplier symposium in Kraków, Poland, bringing 174 suppliers and manufacturers of equipment and materials together to discuss the AP1000® project – Poland’s first nuclear power plant.
The two-day event featured project updates and B2B sessions. It was an important next step in preparing Polish companies to meet the strict standards of the nuclear sector and integrate into Westinghouse’s global supply chain.

“It is crucial to build strong business relationships and trust between all parties involved,” said Mirosław Kowalik, President of Westinghouse Poland, during his opening remarks. “Now is the time to set clear expectations and foster open communication to ensure the successful execution of three AP1000 units, staying on schedule and within budget.”
“The global nuclear industry is experiencing a renaissance, and Poland is leading the way in Europe. Our goal is to equip Polish companies with the knowledge they need to achieve 100% quality, and we are learning how to reach that standard together,” said Leszek Hołda, President of Bechtel. “The AP1000 represents the best in nuclear technology, and Bechtel is the perfect partner to bring it to life.”

During the project update sessions, attendees learned about Poland’s pilot program for students seeking internships in the supply chain and specialized training initiatives. Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe (PEJ)’s Business Development Director, Michał Wierzchowski, highlighted major milestones, including the final environmental decision that will pave the way for the project, upcoming investments in Poland and crucial financial support mechanisms.
Westinghouse global supply chain leaders, Sean Jones and Tim Mediate, discussed Westinghouse non-negotiables – safety, quality and ethical practices. They gave an overview of the AP1000 procurement process and emphasized that Polish suppliers will play a key role in advocating for the region’s shared priorities, unlocking future opportunities beyond the current project.

Additionally, attendees gained valuable insights into the critical role of supply chain planning from Bechtel representatives, who presented the tender packages for 2025 and 2026 with many opportunities for suppliers of construction equipment and services.
