There’s just over one month left to comment on Westinghouse’s AP1000 reactor technology, as part of the UK Generic Design Assessment (GDA), so have you had your say? The Westinghouse AP1000® Pressurised Water Reactor (PWR) is currently being assessed by the UK’s Nuclear Regulators (the Office for Nuclear Regulation and the Environment Agency) under their GDA process.

It was 70 years ago this month that the UK government announced that the now Westinghouse Springfields site, previously a war-time munitions factory, would become the country’s nuclear fuel manufacturing facility. These were exciting times – the nuclear industry was in its infancy and at the forefront of technology – and Springfields was involved right from the very beginning.

November 2, 2014 - Westinghouse Springfields (UK) nuclear fuel manufacturing site recently held our annual Skills Awards Day recognising the achievements of young engineers enrolled in the Advanced Apprentice Training Programme and our employees who have achieved academic success in the past year.
