China-Volunteer-Walk wec 9.20.18

September 20, 2018 - On September 8, Westinghouse China volunteers once again participated in the Beijing Charity Walkathon organized by the China Poverty Alleviation Foundation.

More than 3,000 walkers on 800 teams gathered at the Juyongguan Greatwall on Saturday morning to begin the 50km walk. Teams of four had 18 hours to complete the walk, with four check points and two supply stations along the way. To emphasize the collaboration among the team members, all team members had to arrive at each check point and check in at the same time.

Now in its fifth year, the walkathon raises funds for the elementary students located in the rural areas of Guizhou province, China. Because the average winter temperature in this area is about 2 to 3 Celsius (approximately 35.6 to 37.4 Fahrenheit) and there are no heaters in schools, the donations will be used to buy winter coats, scarfs, gloves, socks, kneelets and cushions for students in need.

After more than 15 hours of walking, the Westinghouse China Team reached the finish line at Beijing Huijia Private School, having raised RMB 5,200 (USD 770).
