Supply Chain Partners Share How Proven AP1000 Technology will Create Tens of Thousands of Jobs and Enable Economic Growth

More than 30 Westinghouse supply chain partners from across the nation joined us in Washington D.C. on March 26 to meet with members of the U.S. Congress to talk about the need for new AP1000® projects in the U.S. that will generate reliable energy and create tens of thousands of jobs in local communities.

Westinghouse suppliers met with Congressional Staff for Representative Guy Reschenthaler of Pennsylvania.

In more than 80 meetings, Westinghouse suppliers shared their experiences working on AP1000 projects such as Plant Vogtle in Georgia and the significant economic benefits these projects provided to their states. During the meetings, the supplier delegations also highlighted the jobs that an AP1000 project would support:

A two-unit AP1000 project will create or sustain more than 45,000 American jobs in 43 states and the District of Columbia, creating another 10,000 construction jobs when the project is built in the U.S.

Members of Congress also learned from our suppliers about the benefits of building new AP1000 reactors to meet the needs of the nation’s most globally competitive and energy demanding industries:

  • The AP1000 unit is the only commercially available advanced reactor already deployed globally and ready for construction now.
  • Proven AP1000 technology is the quickest way to add advanced nuclear generation in the U.S. to meet the rising demand from utilities and hyperscalers.
  • The AP1000 reactor delivers proven, reliable nuclear power at scale at the lowest cost per Mwe of any advanced reactor.

In preparation for meeting with Members of Congress, we organized sessions for our suppliers featuring two keynote speakers: Representative Chuck Fleischmann and Reince Priebus, Chairman for Michael Best Strategies and Former White House Chief of Staff.

“Congratulations to Westinghouse and to AP1000 … Let’s build another one, so we can build 10, so we can build 100,” said Representative Chuck Fleischmann.

Suppliers also received valuable insights and lessons learned from a panel of Westinghouse Executives regarding Plant Vogtle in the state of Georgia.

Westinghouse remains committed to building strong relationships with American political leaders and suppliers for successful deployment of AP1000 plants, securing America’s energy future with American-made technology.
