PITTSBURGH, March 21, 2016 – Westinghouse Electric Company has issued the following statement from Sr. Vice President, New Plants and Major Projects Jeff Benjamin in response to the U.K. regulators’ (Office of Nuclear Regulation and the Environment Agency) joint quarterly report on the Generic Design Assessment (GDA) closure program for the AP1000® reactor design.

“Westinghouse Electric Company works closely with regulatory agencies around the world. The regulators have an important role in reviewing the AP1000 nuclear power plant design in the United Kingdom, and a continued positive relationship between our organizations is key to the successful closeout of the GDA process.

“The regulators have offered a careful perspective on the U.K. AP1000 plant project, providing constructive feedback throughout the process. Westinghouse has delivered revisions or validations of all GDA resolution plans to the regulators to address their concerns. Westinghouse has confidence in the safety of AP1000 plant design and that it will achieve the Design Acceptance Confirmation (DAC) from the ONR and the Statement of Design Acceptability (SoDA) from the Environment Agency.

“Westinghouse looks forward to continuing to work with the regulators on GDA closure to support NuGen in advancing the project to deliver safe, clean, reliable energy to West Cumbria.”
