Westinghouse, TVO and OKG Sign Key Competencies Cooperation Agreement

VÄSTERÅS, Sweden, June 15, 2020 – Westinghouse Electric Company has signed a unique cooperation agreement with the Finnish nuclear power company Teollisuuden Voima Oyj (TVO) and the Swedish nuclear power company OKG to jointly reinforce key competencies on Boiling Water Reactors (BWR).

Westinghouse Installs First-of-a-Kind 3D-printed Fuel Component Inside Commercial Nuclear Reactor

May 4, 2020 –Westinghouse Electric Company announced today a 3D-printed thimble plugging device was successfully installed in Exelon’s Byron Unit 1 nuclear plant during their spring refueling outage. It is a first-of-a-kind installation for the nuclear industry.

Westinghouse eVinci Micro Reactor Awarded U.S. Department of Defense Funding for Mobile Reactor Design

Cranberry Township, PA – March 9, 2020 – Westinghouse Electric Company announced today that its eVinci™ micro reactor was awarded funding from the U.S. Department of Defense’s (DoD) Project Pele, a mobile nuclear reactor prototyping program. The funding will be used to finalize the design for a prototype of Westinghouse’s defense-eVinci (DeVinci™) mobile nuclear power plant (MNPP).

Westinghouse Signs Long-term Contract With TVO to Support Long Term Operation of BWR Reactors

HELSINKI, FINLAND, March 9, 2020 – Today, Westinghouse Electric Company signed a long-term contract with the Finnish nuclear power company Teollisuuden Voima Oyj (TVO) for deliveries of control rods to their two boiling water reactors (BWRs), Olkiluoto 1 and 2, through 2038. TVO will utilize Westinghouse’s optimized CR 99+ design to extend the operational life of the control rods.

Westinghouse Announces Plan to Establish the Clean Energy Technology Park in the U.K.

Westinghouse Partners With Nordion to Increase Future Supply of Life-saving Cobalt-60

Ottawa, ON (Canada), February 26, 2020 – Westinghouse Electric Company and Nordion (Canada) Inc., a Sotera Health Company, today announced they have signed a Letter of Intent to develop innovative isotope production technology that will allow Cobalt-60 to be produced in Pressurized Water Reactors (PWRs). Through this collaboration, Westinghouse and Nordion will strengthen the supply of Cobalt-60, which plays a critical role in the safety of medical devices and reduces pathogens in food and other products. Cobalt-60 also plays a vital role in the treatment of certain brain cancers.
