NASA and DOE Continue Collaboration with Westinghouse on Fission Surface Power Project

Cranberry Township, PA, January 7, 2025 – Westinghouse Electric Company announced today that NASA, working with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), has selected Westinghouse to continue development of a space microreactor design through the Fission Surface Power (FSP) project.

Sofia, Bulgaria – December 20, 2024 – Westinghouse Electric Company and Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant (KNPP) signed a new contract to conduct safety analysis for licensing a new nuclear fuel assembly design compatible with the KNPP Unit 6 resident fuel design.

Agreement Supports Deployment of Advanced Reactors in Canada and Globally

Peterborough, Ontario, December 12, 2024 – Westinghouse Electric Company and BWXT Canada, Ltd. announced today they have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to support nuclear new-build projects in Canada and globally. Under the agreement, BWXT Canada has the potential to manufacture key AP1000® and AP300™ reactor components, including steam generators, reactor vessels, pressure vessels, and heat exchangers.

Funding Interest Signals Canada’s Nuclear Supply Chain is Ready to Work for Global New Build Projects 

Peterborough, Ontario, December 9, 2024 – Westinghouse Electric Company welcomes the Letter of Interest (LOI) for up to U.S. $1.45 billion ($2.02 billion CAD) in potential financing from Export Development Canada (EDC) to support the sale of goods and services by Canadian suppliers to build Poland’s AP1000 project, its first nuclear power plant. Westinghouse will help facilitate the potential financing for Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ), the state-owned company that is responsible for developing the plant at the Lubiatowo-Kopalino site in Pomerania.

Approval of State-of-the-Art Instrumentation and Control System is Industry First for a Microreactor

Cranberry Township, PA, December 4, 2024 – Westinghouse Electric Company announced today that the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) approved the state-of-the-art eVinci™ Advanced Logic System® (ALS) Version 2 (v2) instrumentation and control (I&C) platform through a Final Safety Evaluation Report on two topical reports. The groundbreaking approvals make the eVinci microreactor the first and only microreactor with an NRC-approved I&C system, opening a path to autonomous operation.

Engineering Services Contract Begins the Licensing, Permitting, Project Management and Site Planning Process 

Sofia, Bulgaria, November 4, 2024 – Westinghouse Electric Company, Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co. and Bulgaria’s Kozloduy NPP - New Build EAD today signed the Engineering Services Contract for two AP1000® reactors to be built at the Kozloduy site. Bulgarian Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev, Bulgarian Minister of Energy Vladimir Malinov, U.S. Ambassador to Bulgaria Kenneth Merten, Executive Director of Kozloduy NPP - New Build Petyo Ivanov, Senior Vice President of Westinghouse Energy Systems Elias Gedeon, and Hyundai Engineering & Construction President and CEO Yoon Young-Joon attended the signing ceremony in Sofia.
