Cranberry Township, Pa., August 15, 2024 - Westinghouse Electric Company received the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s approval for an increase in the burnup limit for the Westinghouse Encore® fuel designs. This allows better nuclear fuel efficiency, longer times between reactor refuels and lower operating costs.

Lancashire, England, August 7, 2024 - Westinghouse Electric Company has completed the first pressing of its Low Enriched Uranium (LEU+) ADOPT™ nuclear fuel pellets for commercial application at its Springfields Fuel Manufacturing Facility in the UK. This milestone was achieved in partnership with Southern Nuclear and the support of the U.S. Department of Energy.

Westinghouse Announces New President of Its Energy Systems Business Unit

Cranberry Township, Pa., August 1, 2024 – Westinghouse Electric Company announced today that Dan Lipman has been appointed president of its Energy Systems business unit. In this role, Mr. Lipman will be responsible to deploy the AP1000® pressurized water reactor and AP300™ small modular reactor, as well as advanced reactor development and other non-nuclear energy systems, including long-duration energy storage.

Westinghouse’s Additive Manufacturing Innovation Improves Safety and Efficiency in Operating Nuclear Reactors

This industry-first milestone increases bottom nozzle debris resistance from 65% to 96%

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa., June. 26, 2024 – In an industry first, Westinghouse Electric Company used additive manufacturing (AM) to fabricate bottom nozzles that improve debris capture and fuel endurance within its fuel assemblies. The nozzles were integrated into four Lead Test Assemblies delivered to Alabama Power’s Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant operated by Southern Nuclear, in the first quarter of 2024.
