Currently, the most likely way this laboratory or industrial operation or military base can be powered and heated is through transported diesel fuel—both expensive and polluting, or a grid-based coal-fired plant if nearer a coastal region, also polluting.

The demand for carbon-free hydrogen fuel is expected to grow tenfold by 2050, as the race is on to transition away from fossil fuels and hydrogen produced by fossil fuels. Hydrogen fuel is made for uses in fertilizer, transportation and heavy industries like steel and iron production.

Westinghouse Columbia Site participated in and was a sponsor of the Lower Richland Senior Citizen’s Luncheon. Seniors from the Lower Richland area gathered to receive information from Sheriff Leon Lott, Senator Darrell Jackson, Representative Jermaine Johnson, Kendra Dove, and other elected officials.
