Westinghouse Awarded $8 Million by Doe to Advance Nuclear Technology

PITTSBURGH, July 12, 2016 – The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has selected Westinghouse Electric Company and its research partners to receive $8 million in research awards over the next three years to fund a series of projects. The awards support Westinghouse research in a number of areas including the area of self-powered wireless sensors and laser-based 3D printing.

Successful Cold Hydro Test at Haiyang 1 Drives Delivery Certainty for Westinghouse AP1000® Plants

Beijing, July 2, 2016 – Westinghouse Electric Company has successfully completed another significant milestone toward achieving nth-of-a-kind delivery for the AP1000 nuclear power plant program.

On July 2, Haiyang Unit 1 in Shandong Province successfully completed its cold hydrostatic test (CHT), further confirming safety and quality design features of the innovative nuclear power plant under construction in China. The achievement came approximately one month after Sanmen 1 completed its CHT on May 25.

Westinghouse Fleet Expands With TVA’s Watts Bar Unit 2

PITTSBURGH – June 28, 2016 – Westinghouse Electric Company today applauded Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) for their startup of the Watts Bar Unit 2 reactor, the seventh operating reactor in its nuclear fleet.

First Westinghouse AP1000® Completes Cold Hydro Test at Sanmen 1

Beijing, May 26, 2016 – The world’s first AP1000® nuclear power plant moved a step closer to commissioning with the completion of the cold hydrostatic test (CHT) at Sanmen Unit 1 in Zhejiang Province, China. The successful completion of CHT confirms that the reactor systems meet design pressures under operating and accident conditions and signifies the completion of the plant’s design and construction programs.
