VÄSTERÅS, Sweden, April 28, 2016 – Westinghouse Electric Company announced the expansion of its Nuclear Fuel Factory, situated in Västerås, Sweden, in response to growing demand for nuclear fuel supply diversification for VVER-1000 reactors in Europe. The investment finances additional production facilities, fuel engineering work, as well as the procurement of additional process and assembly equipment for manufacturing the fuel. The new facilities were officially inaugurated by José Emeterio Gutiérrez, Westinghouse senior vice president for Nuclear Fuel and Components Manufacturing today in the presence of representatives from the Västerås Municipality, local business community and the Ukrainian Embassy to the Kingdom of Sweden.

SPRINGFIELDS, England, April 15, 2016 – Westinghouse Electric Company announced that the U.K. has the advanced manufacturing capabilities necessary to effectively manufacture the Westinghouse Small Modular Reactor’s (SMR) Reactor Pressure Vessel (RPV), one of the largest and most demanding parts of any reactor. The announcement follows a careful study of U.K. manufacturing capabilities by the Nuclear Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (Nuclear AMRC) and is an important part of Westinghouse’s SMR offer to the U.K. Government.

PITTSBURGH, March 28, 2016 – Westinghouse Electric Company today announced that it has signed a contract with National Nuclear Energy Generating Company (NNEGC) Energoatom to license the Westinghouse BEACON™ Core Monitoring System for use at the Zaporizhia nuclear plant Unit 5, further diversifying fuel and related materials supply to Ukraine reactors. BEACON is a state-of-the-art product providing crucial reactor measurements for required safety margins.
SPRINGFIELDS, U.K., 23 March 2016 – On 28 March, the Westinghouse nuclear licenced site at Springfields celebrates 70 years of safely manufacturing nuclear fuel.
On that date in 1946 the Government announced that the former war-time munitions factory would be the birthplace of the UK’s civil nuclear power programme. As the first plant in the world to produce fuel for a commercial nuclear power station, the site has produced over 12 million fuel elements and supplied products and services to customers in 11 countries.

PITTSBURGH, March 16, 2016 – Westinghouse Electric Company has been selected by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) to provide steam generator inspection and maintenance services for the Westinghouse-designed pressurized water reactors at Watts Bar Units 1 and 2 and Sequoyah Units 1 and 2. The contract covers the period 2016 through 2021.
