Westinghouse Wins Competitive Bid for Delivery of Nuclear Fuel to Spain

VÄSTERÅS, Sweden, June 13, 2018 – Westinghouse Electric Company today announced the signing of a contract for manufacture and delivery of boiling water reactor (BWR) fuel to Cofrentes Nuclear Power Plant (CNC) in Spain in 2019 and 2021. CNC is wholly owned by Iberdrola Generación Nuclear S.A.

Westinghouse Awarded $5 Million From U.S. Department of Energy

Cranberry Township, PA – June 7, 2018 – Westinghouse Electric Company announced today that it was awarded $5 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E). The funding will be used to develop a self-regulating solid core block (SCB) that employs solid materials (instead of bulk liquid flow or moving parts) to inherently self-regulate the reaction rate in a nuclear reactor. The development of the SCB is a key component of Westinghouse’s eVinciTM micro reactor concept – a next-generation, very small modular reactor for decentralized generation markets.

First Westinghouse AP1000 Plant Sanmen 1 Begins Synchronization to Electrical Grid

SANMEN, CHINA, June 30, 2018 – Westinghouse Electric Company and its customers, China State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation (SNPTC) and CNNC Sanmen Nuclear Power Company Limited (SMNPC) announced today that the world’s first AP1000 nuclear power plant located in Sanmen, Zhejiang Province, China, has begun initial connection to the electrical grid. Sanmen 1’s turbine generator is now initially connected to the electrical grid and has begun generating electricity.

Westinghouse Accident Tolerant Fuel Development Moves Forward With Cooperation Agreement With ENUSA

MADRID – May 25, 2018 – Westinghouse Electric Company today announced that it will collaborate in the development of its EnCore® Fuel, the revolutionary accident-tolerant fuel (ATF) design, with ENUSA Industrias Avanzadas (ENUSA) through a Frame Cooperation Agreement (FCA).

“This agreement serves to strengthen the technical and commercial relations between ENUSA and Westinghouse as we work to develop leading nuclear fuel technology,” said Torbjörn Norén, European Fuel Group and EMEA Fuel Delivery Director at Westinghouse.
