SPRINGFIELDS, England, Oct. 12, 2016 – Westinghouse Electric Company announced today that it is continuing to work with the United Kingdom’s Nuclear Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (Nuclear AMRC) on an additional advanced manufacturing study to explore potential design efficiencies to reduce significantly the build lead-times of the Westinghouse Small Modular Reactor (SMR). These efficiencies can provide important reductions in costs to customers while promoting growth in manufacturing within the UK, an important part of Westinghouse’s SMR program.

Cranberry Township, PA, September 26, 2019 – Today, Westinghouse Electric Company signed a definitive agreement to acquire Rolls-Royce’s Civil Nuclear Systems and Services business in North America, expanding Westinghouse’s global capabilities in digital, engineering services, plant automation and monitoring systems, field services and manufacturing.

VIENNA, September 17, 2019 - During the IAEA General Conference in Vienna, CEA, EDF and Westinghouse Electric Company signed a framework agreement to explore potential cooperation on small modular reactor (SMR) development. Worldwide demand for low carbon- electricity generation in the 300-400 MWe range is an important market segment that the parties strongly believe their unparalleled experience in nuclear fuel and reactor design, and operation can address.

Cranberry Township, PA, September 5, 2019 – Westinghouse Electric Company and Exelon Generation Company have successfully completed a first-of-a-kind installation of EnCore Fuel, Westinghouse’s accident-tolerant fuel solution, at Exelon’s Byron Unit 2 nuclear power plant. The advanced nuclear fuel was installed during the plant’s scheduled spring refueling outage.

Cranberry Township, Pa. – Aug. 20, 2019 – Today, Westinghouse Electric announced that Tarik Choho has been appointed president of the company’s Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) Operating Plant Services Business Unit. In this role, Choho will lead Westinghouse’s customer-focused business unit, serving the existing nuclear operating fleet customers within the region.

Cranberry Township, PA, July 22, 2019 – Westinghouse Electric Company announced the acquisition of NA Engineering Associates Inc., a Canadian-based provider of comprehensive engineering solutions including significant nuclear expertise. This acquisition supports Westinghouse’s strategic growth initiatives by expanding the company’s footprint in Canada.

The degradation of materials currently used in aging nuclear power plants is a growing concern to both utilities and regulatory bodies. One such issue is primary water stress corrosion cracking (PWSCC) of reactor vessel bottom-mounted instrumentation (BMI) nozzle welds in pressurized water reactor (PWR) plants. These cracks can be challenging to detect by nondestructive evaluation (NDE) methods, and so will often go unnoticed until a leak occurs. By that point, the repair cost and schedule can lead to significant availability losses.

Cranberry Township, PA, May 16, 2019 – Westinghouse Electric Company (“Westinghouse”) announced today that José Emeterio Gutiérrez will step down as President and Chief Executive Officer on July 31, 2019, following more than a decade of service with the company. Patrick Fragman, currently Group Senior Vice President at ABB Limited, has been appointed as President and CEO effective August 19. In the interim, an Executive Committee comprised of members of Westinghouse’s senior leadership team will manage the day-to-day affairs of the company.
