Reaffirms IP Protections and Export Control Obligations for Deployment of Westinghouse Technology

Cranberry Township, Pa., August 26, 2024 – Westinghouse Electric Company announced it has filed an appeal with the Czech Anti-Monopoly Office to protest the decision by CEZ to select Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) as the preferred bidder for the construction of two new nuclear reactors at the Dukovany power plant.

The approval is the first step in the technology licencing process to make SMRs a reality in the U.K.

Incremental burnup increases fuel utilization and reduces fuel cycle costs for U.S. utilities

This allows better nuclear fuel efficiency, longer times between reactor refuels and lower operating costs. 

LEU+ ADOPT™ pellets will improve fuel cycle safety and reactor operational costs

Lancashire, England, August 7, 2024 - Westinghouse Electric Company has completed the first pressing of its Low Enriched Uranium (LEU+) ADOPT™ nuclear fuel pellets for commercial application at its Springfields Fuel Manufacturing Facility in the UK. This milestone was achieved in partnership with Southern Nuclear and the support of the U.S. Department of Energy.

Cranberry Township, Pa., August 1, 2024 – Westinghouse Electric Company announced today that Dan Lipman has been appointed president of its Energy Systems business unit. In this role, Mr. Lipman will be responsible to deploy the AP1000® pressurized water reactor and AP300™ small modular reactor, as well as advanced reactor development and other non-nuclear energy systems, including long-duration energy storage.

This industry-first milestone increases bottom nozzle debris resistance from 65% to 96%

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa., June. 26, 2024 – In an industry first, Westinghouse Electric Company used additive manufacturing (AM) to fabricate bottom nozzles that improve debris capture and fuel endurance within its fuel assemblies. The nozzles were integrated into four Lead Test Assemblies delivered to Alabama Power’s Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant operated by Southern Nuclear, in the first quarter of 2024.

New Fuel Ensures Supply Diversification for Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant

Sofia, Bulgaria – May 29, 2024 – Westinghouse Electric Company delivered the first reload of VVER-1000 fuel assemblies to Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant (KNPP) in April, marking a key fuel diversification milestone in Bulgaria. The loading of the new fuel into KNPP Unit 5 was celebrated today at an event attended by Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria Dimitar Glavchev, Minister of Energy Vladimir Malinov and the U.S. Ambassador to Bulgaria Kenneth Merten.
